FFL Transfer Information

Understanding FFL Transfers

Federal Firearms License (FFL) transfers are a critical part of firearms commerce in the United States. As a licensed FFL dealer, Wasatch Back Customs complies fully with all federal regulations.

How FFL Transfers Work

When you purchase a firearm from Wasatch Back Customs:

  1. You select a firearm and complete your bid or purchase
  2. You identify a local FFL dealer who will receive the firearm on your behalf
  3. We ship the firearm directly to your chosen FFL dealer
  4. You complete the required background check at your local dealer
  5. You take possession of the firearm after all legal requirements are met

Finding an FFL Dealer

You can locate FFL dealers in your area through:

  • Local gun ranges and shooting clubs
  • The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) FFL directory
  • Online FFL finder services
  • Your state firearms licensing authority
Important: Many FFL dealers charge a "transfer fee" for this service, typically ranging from $15-$50. Contact your local dealer to confirm their transfer fees before completing your purchase.

Background Checks

All firearm purchases are subject to a National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) check. This process typically takes minutes to hours.

  • Age requirements: 18+ for rifles/shotguns, 21+ for handguns
  • No felony convictions
  • No domestic violence convictions
  • No current restraining orders
  • Legal resident of the United States

State-Specific Regulations

In addition to federal requirements, your state and local jurisdiction may have additional restrictions. It is your responsibility to ensure compliance with all applicable laws.

NFA Items

Wasatch Back Customs holds SOT (Special Occupational Taxpayer) certification, allowing us to deal in NFA-regulated items including suppressors, short-barreled rifles, and machine guns. Additional federal requirements apply to these items.
