FFL Transfer Information

Everything you need to know about purchasing a firearm through Wasatch Back Customs.

How It Works

Wasatch Back Customs is a federally licensed firearms dealer (FFL) based in Heber City, Utah. When you purchase a firearm through our store, federal law requires that the firearm be transferred to you through a licensed dealer — either through us directly, or through an FFL dealer local to you.

We've made this process as straightforward as possible. Here's what to expect from start to finish.

The Transfer Process

Place Your Order

Browse our inventory and complete your purchase through our secure checkout. You'll be prompted to select your receiving FFL dealer during checkout — this can be us (by appointment) or a dealer local to you.

Firearm Ships to Your FFL

Once your order is confirmed, the firearm ships directly from our distributor to your selected FFL dealer. Firearms are shipped between licensed dealers only — they cannot be shipped directly to a customer's home.

Your Dealer Contacts You

Your receiving FFL dealer will notify you when the firearm arrives. If you selected Wasatch Back Customs as your receiving dealer, we will contact you to schedule your appointment.

Complete Your Background Check

At the time of transfer you'll complete ATF Form 4473 and a NICS background check. This is required by federal law for all firearm transfers. The process typically takes 15–30 minutes.

Take Possession

Once your background check is approved, you're all set. Your firearm is yours.

Transfers Through WBC — By Appointment Only

Wasatch Back Customs does not have a retail storefront. If you select us as your receiving FFL, all transfers are conducted by appointment only at our Heber City, Utah location. We keep our schedule flexible and work around yours.

Common Questions

Can I use my own local FFL dealer?

Yes — and we encourage it if you have a trusted dealer nearby. During checkout you'll be able to search for and select any licensed FFL dealer in the country as your receiving dealer. Your local dealer may charge a transfer fee, which is separate from your purchase price.

How much does a transfer through WBC cost?

Our transfer fee is included with purchases made through our store. There are no hidden fees for using Wasatch Back Customs as your receiving FFL.

What do I need to bring to my transfer appointment?

Bring a valid government-issued photo ID. If you have a current Utah Concealed Firearm Permit (CFP), bring that as well — it can streamline the background check process.

How long does shipping take?

Most in-stock items ship within 1–3 business days and arrive at your FFL dealer within 3–7 business days depending on your location. You'll receive tracking information once your order ships.

What if my background check is delayed?

NICS background checks are sometimes delayed — this is common and doesn't mean you've been denied. Federal law allows a dealer to transfer a firearm after three business days if no response has been received. We'll walk you through the process if this happens.

Do you transfer firearms purchased elsewhere?

Yes. If you've purchased a firearm from another source and need an FFL to receive it, contact us to arrange a transfer appointment. Standard transfer fees apply.

NFA Items — Suppressors, SBRs & More

2026 Update: As of January 1, 2026, the $200 federal tax stamp fee on suppressors, short-barreled rifles (SBRs), short-barreled shotguns (SBSs), and any other weapons (AOWs) has been eliminated under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. You still go through the ATF approval process — the cost is simply gone. Machine guns and destructive devices still require the $200 tax stamp.

Wasatch Back Customs is a licensed SOT (Special Occupational Taxpayer) dealer, which means we are authorized to facilitate the transfer of National Firearms Act (NFA) regulated items including suppressors, short-barreled rifles, short-barreled shotguns, and any other weapons.

How NFA Transfers Work

Purchase Your NFA Item

Select your suppressor, SBR, SBS, or AOW from our inventory and complete checkout. You'll select a SOT-qualified FFL dealer near you to receive the item.

Complete ATF Form 4

Your selected SOT dealer will assist you in completing ATF Form 4 (Application for Tax Paid Transfer and Registration of Firearm). Fingerprints and a passport-style photo are required.

ATF Background Check & Approval

A NICS background check is conducted. The ATF reviews your application and approves the transfer. Due to a surge in applications in 2026, processing times may be longer than usual.

Take Possession

Once ATF approval is received, your SOT dealer completes the transfer and you take possession of your NFA item. You cannot take possession until approval is granted.
